Chakra Book – Blog 1

Well, it looks like we’re going to be on chakras, off and on, for a while.  I’ve started a book to try to make chakras a little more accessible at higher levels.

To understand Chakras thoroughly takes time, and most people don’t have that level of time to commit to them.  I've always found them fascinating, so my goal is to pass on some of that more in-depth knowledge in a way that will make it easier for people to understand.

For example, when we start looking at Chakras, we find that it involves not just the seven chakras, some systems have nine, or even more, but also the Kundalini energy that originates from the root chakra, and the “prana,” which is the Sanskrit word for the life force that feeds the chakras.

I have studied chakras along with most aspects of Pagan and Eastern spiritual practice for most of my 60 plus years, and I have over 30 years of teaching experience.  In the course of the book, I will cover the basics of Chakras as well as some of the chakras available to us in addition to the seven main ones.  If you seek to study chakras on your own, you will discover that everything involved in their study has a Sanskrit name, so while those names will be in their specific sections, the book will include a glossary with definitions and explanations.

A few years back, I wrote several blogs about the very basics of chakras that I will re-run for those who missed them.  My goal is to lead you to a deeper understanding of chakras and how you can improve your lives through healing and tuning your chakras.

This leads me to my questions:
  • What questions do you have about chakras?
  • What aspects do you particularly want to know about?
  • Which chakras interest you the most?
I welcome your questions and your experiences.  You may post your questions below, on our website at Pagan Realms, or on Facebook.

Just as a start, since herbs is one of our recently enlarged categories, here are a couple of herbs to help you balance each chakra.

“Throat Chakra”

The fifth chakra, the Throat Chakra, affects our ability to communicate, and is obviously located in the throat or Laryngeal Center, and it affects our lungs and all of our respiratory system. Our speech and our self-expression are natural reflections of the health of our Throat Chakra. Therefore, the throat chakra also affects our confidence, our ability to find our personal voice, and can even affect the balance of all the other chakras since it is so crucial to our ability to express our feelings.
When we have a balanced throat chakra, we are more calm and caring. We have the ability to be more loyal and trustworthy, and we can better express our creativity whether it is through art, writing, public speaking, photography, or any creative medium. The chakras build on each other, and our energy travels from the root chakra up through the sacral and the solar plexus to the heart, the throat, the crown, and the third eye. If all the chakras are balanced, we are balanced and grounded, and enjoy life. Our ability to create the world we wish to have is easier, and we are at peace with ourselves and the world around us.
If one of the chakras is out of balance, our sense of well being deteriorates and we lose our connections to life. An imbalance in the throat chakra can lead to dental issues, addictions that involve the mouth such as smoking or overeating, inner ear infections and even deafness. If our throat chakra is out of balance, we are more likely to tend toward shyness, gossip, and fear of self-expression. This can lead to misunderstandings as we are unable to convey our feelings clearly, and can leave us feeling disconnected from the rest of the world, and the people around us.
Balancing the throat chakra can take many forms. The color of the throat chakra is blue, so of course, wearing blue, surrounding yourself with blue, using a blue altar cloth, or wearing blue jewelry such as Sapphire, lapis lazuli, blue topaz, aquamarine, and turquoise can be instrumental in healing the throat chakra.
Healing can also come through expressing what you feel, whether it’s in the form of writing in a journal, learning an instrument, or just listening to music that you like. Any type of creative expression, or enjoyment of creativity, your own or someone else’s that lifts your spirits can help you balance your throat chakra.
The throat chakra is also associated with intuition, so as with most of the chakras, meditation and affirmations can help with healing. Soothing music and sounds can help you find your balance in the throat chakra. We must find balance in all our chakras to prepare ourselves to accept what the universe has to offer.
Always remember, “Self-expression must pass into communication for its fulfillment.” ― Pearl S. Buck

Introduction to Chakras

We get energy from several different types of vibrations–including color–that are used in various parts of the body. Our major energy centers are connected to major organs that govern other body parts. Each of these main energy centers is referred to as a chakra.  Chakra is a Sanskrit word which means wheel. A chakra is a wheel-like spinning vortex that whirls in a circular motion forming a vacuum in the center of our spiritual being that balances us.
It is said that our body contains hundreds of chakras that are the key to the operation of our being. There are seven main chakras which are the energy centers in our body. These “spinning wheels” draw-in information through colors, stones, candles or even someone else’s aura. Through our chakras we perceive the health of our environment, including the people in our lives.
The seven main chakra centers are aligned along the spine. If there are disturbances on any level, this shows in the chakra’s vitality level. Also each of the seven main chakras is their own intelligence center. This means that each chakra is not only associated with our physical health but also controls aspects connected to our emotional, mental and belief system.

Blocked energy in one of the Chakras can cause illness so it's important to understand what each Chakra represents and what we can do to keep this energy flowing freely.
